He’s a dandy guy…in space

Lets say that I absolutely love time loops. From Ground Hog Day to a very special episode of Space Dandy from season 2...(i think its season 2) but the episode is called " There is always tomorrow, Baby"

It turns an other wise goofy space anime into a quiet story about the psychological horror of and endless day where tomorrow never comes.

The premise is easy to follow. Dandy and the crew have to make a stop on a small planet to reapir their ship. They just have to wait a day for the mechanic to make the nessary repairs but they day keeps reseting before that even happens.

So the crew wakes up everyday...the same day and do the same routine hundreds of times. At first it feels like a joke because they shrug off the familiarity nearly 200 times. Yeah, the show is know for being ridiculous but the tone changes from a cozy slice of life to escapism

Imagine living the same boring ass day on auto pilot forever.

Terrifying right? You have no control. Even if you are aware everyone else carries on this endless loop and the lack of consequence will feel like a blessing until the nihilism kicks in and you can either fall in line like everyone else or lose your mind. Your choice.

The title feels optimistic but its actually a threat. Its a promise that doesn’t come but even after they escape the loop. The future no longer feels special and they fall into the routine they had before they were trapped.

That episode is time loops done right unlike the Endless Eight Arc but I digress.

I just figured out how its best to advance the story that loops without exhausting the reader with repetition. There is always an opportunity to up the stakes even if you have no consequences.
